Panel 1: Connie demonstrates her grasp of the blindingly obvious by saying that some day this August Elly will be mother of the bride, Anthony will be her son-in-law and Françoise will be her step-granddaughter. This may seem unnecessary but Liz had to point out to her that she, John and April were in fact moving so maybe Connie knows her friend fairly well.
Panel 2: She then goes on to boast about how she loves the three children the step-daughters she treated like shitheels had just as much as she would as if they were related to her genetically. This is a lie because she insists on the use of words like stepdaughter. If she actually felt that way, she'd simply call Molly and Gayle plain, unprefixed daughters.
Panel 3: The sentiment that it takes more than DNA to make a family would sound better if we didn't know what she was such a high-handed freak to Molly and Gayle, they embraced their biological mother. In other words, more self-delusion from an arrogant twit.
Panel 4: Connie sets up the weak-ass pun by giving Elly advice she not only never followed in the first place but would have decked the poor sap who suggested it. Elly sinks to the occasion by delivering a groaner about first steps.
Hypothesis: It's only going to get worse from here. We know that Lynn has the capacity and will to make things worse.
