Hi, folks, it's me, April! I wouldn't blame you if you kind of forgot I existed. For a while there, February just seemed like the Mike show, though we at least got you back to Liz a bit. You hadn't heard from her since right after our Christmas dinner!
Exams last month were killer, but I'm happy with my grades. I aced my chem and English and got an A- in pre-calc and Canadian politics and citizenship. When I showed my marks to Mom, would you believe she asked me why they weren't all straight-up A's? She just has no idea sometimes.
We had a college/university fair at my school last month, and I've started to wonder if UWinnipeg might not be the best idea, even though I'd have my Aunt Bev and Uncle Danny right there. Chances are I'd pretty much be limiting myself to USaskatchewan for my DVM if I do pre-vet at UWinni. What if I want to study at Guelph or in Montreal instead?
I recently got involved with an animal-rescue org called 4 Legged Love, and I've met some pretty cool people through it. My new friend Stacey Livers is a vegan and I've started to think about becoming one too. Mom would probably freak, but at least I'll be out of the house in a bit over a year. Yay! Oh, and speaking of Mom and freaking, I made the mistake of saying it was irresponsible of her and Connie not to spay and neuter Sera and Farley. And Mom went into this thing about how none of that would have happened if I hadn't opened the gates and let the dogs out, and also if it hadn't been for Edgar running to the house and letting everyone know something was wrong, I wouldn't be alive today. And then I said that Mom saw me opening the gate with a stick, and since I was only four and she was a grown-up, it was her job to make sure I couldn't open the gate. Then she yelled at me for dredging up the past. Parents!
So, let's see what else there is to tell you about. I went to visit Gramps and Iris a couple of days ago, and Iris was dropping a lot of hints about how nice it would be if Gramps got to see Mom more often. I felt bad because Mom does have lots of time on her hands, but she has been making excuses about why she hasn't had a chance to visit lately. So I try visiting extra and I always make a little treat they can have with their tea.
Mike and Dee drive me crazy because they always assume I'll be able to babysit. Like tonight, for example. They want to go out to dinner, and Dee called me just now to say, "April, you can come by the house around six tonight, okay?" And I was like, "What are you talking about?" And Dee said, "You're sitting tonight, right?" And I told her I had no idea what she was talking about, and I have plans. Then I heard some muffled yelling and, sort of "hissing" in the background. Then Dee asked me to pass the phone to Mom. I was afraid Mom would say I had to cancel my plans and sit, which would be horrible. But Mom totally surprised me and told Dee she'd sit tonight but that really they have to give more notice.
Anyway, my plans tonight are to go to a fundraiser for 4 Legged Love. I've gotten Eva and Duncan to go with me, and Stacey will be there, too. Remember, everyone, spay and neuter your pets!
