Stephanie is going to D.C.

To stand on a table and tell people that special needs kids are people too need more funding. Or something. ETA: Actually, she's going to be the keynote speaker for the Disability Awareness Month celebration at the U.S. Department of State. My bad.

Anyway, I wonder why D.C. and not Parliament. American press more valuable for propaganda? Or has the Canadian government placed a cap on the amount of attention-whoring Lynn can do in a year?

::grumble:: I hate this kind of thing, because it puts one in a position of, if you're not moved to tears, you're basically saying "Are there no workhouses?" When Lisa went to Washington in FW, many readers pointed out that she was not blowing the lid off some big secret. There had to have been people in there who already knew what cancer looked like.

Same with special needs. I know George Will is not a politician, but he does have a kid with Downs, and because of who he is, he's been able to influence funding for education and research. Who wants to bet that if Stephanie was just the SN person who bags Lynn's groceries, Lynn would never have taken notice of her?
