Panel 1: Sigh. I guess she just has to read his tone. Mashed potatoes in soup? Shudder. And all kidding aside, is the "boxcar" device realistic? I think I have heard of aphasic people getting stuck on one word or phrase.

Panel 2: I can understand asking questions, trying to draw him out, but if it sounds the way it looks -- her peppering him with questions and not waiting for an answer -- then I wonder what can be read into "standard shift."

Panel 3: Iris, jeez! I know you're frustrated, but berating him won't improve his speech. He's not being stubborn; he's doing the best he can. Then again, if either of you had ANYONE else who's not paid to be there, perhaps you wouldn't be so impatient, and Jim wouldn't be cursing, as I suspect, for real.

Panel 4: Hey, I, the reader, am being enlightened by this strip! It has all been worth it! Thank you, Lynn, for educating me!

Panel 5: God almighty. It's been said before, but I'll say it again: Jim and Iris do not HAVE to go through this alone. Yet, it's being presented as such. Guess it's the same principle as the Pattersons Redux being crushingly poor while being supremely well paid.
