Panel 1: Well, "No, no" could mean "No, I won't fall," or "No, don't do this." But it's still an appropriate response.

Panel 2: Oh, please let him take to it right away. I don't care if it's realistic or not; I just want to see Jim regain some measure of independence.

Panel 3: What line? And why is Jim's reflection visible, at that angle?

Panel 4: Okay, what's that supposed to mean? "That's what I keep telling myself" usually means either "small comfort" or "but I don't believe it." But in this case, it is the right attitude. So why glurge us?
