We're meant to assume that Elly is tired all the time because she has nooooooo help and nooooo time to herself. What we're supposed to ignore is the fact that she lives to distract herself from a task she finds onerous and demeaning: being a housewife and mother:

because she sees it as 'proof' that she's just another forgettable housewife with no mind or identity of her own:

This is because Elly's problem is that she has the same easily distracted nature as the maniac who created her. Lynn's need to dawdle means that she's always racing around at the last second.
