Snarky Candiru2

Sunday, 7 June 2020

The one where Mike comments on how much work Elly has to put in dealing with April while at the same time blanking out on the fact that he's even harder to look after.

(Original Publication Date, 9 June 1991)

Panel 1: The first throw-away panel has Elly burp a crying April.

Panel 2: She smiles when April blurps up despite getting some of it down her back.

Panel 3: Since Mike has the same memory problems everyone else has, he can't remember back to when Lizzie was two months old. This is why he wonders if all of the laundry Elly is doing is April's. She says that it mostly is.

Panel 4: He also can't remember that Elly might not care if she's got a little baby blurp down her back no matter how squicked-out that makes him.

Panel 5: Having noticed that she's been carrying her around in a sling since the actual strip began, Mike asks Elly if she hasta carry the baby around like that. Elly says that she doesn't but it keeps her happy.

Panel 6: As Elly nurses April, Mike declares the situation unreal because the baby is always hungry, she cries all night, she barfs and she leaks.

Panel 7: Since he's never liked baby furniture because he's got it in his fool head that it means that they don't like him so made more kids they like best, he makes a sweeping declaration that baby junk is everywhere.

Panel 8: As he and Liz casually ransack the place while Elly is occupied, he reminds us of his trademark lack of self-awareness when he says that at least he and Liz are easier to look after. This astonishes Elly because she's not built to snort in anger when faced with stupidity.

Summary: Mike has never had the least idea of what a pain in the ass he is to be around. People who point out that he's a pill are in his estimation jealous of him.
