Snarky Candiru2

Saturday, 30 May 2020

The one about Liz being feeling left out that eerily parallels Mike's rant about brothers not fighting owing to the symbolic abuse of a toy.

(Original Publication Date, 1 June 1991)

Panel 1: As Mike grabs stuff out of the fridge, he asks Liz where Mom is. As she steps on one of the toys they got for April, Liz grouses "Doing stuff for the baby."

This is, of course, like how Mike angrily kicked Lizzie's bunny because 'sisters get everything and nooooobody loves me because I don't get all the attention ever and they get none at all because they're bad and what do you mean, I'm an insane freak devoid of empathy?"

Panel 2: As she spins the toy around like she'd like to spin the baby around, she doesn't realize that she's channelling the oaf gobbling an apple when she says "Baby, this, baby, that, everything in this house revolves around the baby!!"

Panel 3: She then tosses the toy behind her back as if to indicate an on-going desire to throw the baby out so she can get her life back. Mike starts to be a hypocrite when he says "Yeah....."

Panel 4: He then foreshadows his actually being right about the garbage move she wanted to pull at Anthony's first wedding when he makes an ironic comment about how he's glad to see she's adjusting so well.

Summary: Even unto the end days, we see Liz resent Pickyface's presence and it's because they made the same mistake they did with Mike: assuming that he'd 'adjust' like he's a television set or something.
