Indignant Candiru

We transition away from John and Elly yapping about how terrible it is that children have free will to watch Anne baffle Elly by making a bad pun about how she doesn't actually envy her at all.

(Original Publication Date, 3 November 1990)

Panel 1: Some time after the stupid mess with Mike, we find ourselves watching Anne show up holding a box of baby and maternity clothes she says that she thinks Elly can use. An appreciative Elly says that was sweet of her.

Panel 2: As she sorts through the hand-me-downs, Elly smiles as Anne says that she's just plain going to give her Leah's crib (which she's outgrown) and a changing table to go with it.

Panel 3: Elly thanks Anne for being so generous. The concern she has about being given books and toys and blankets is that she wants to be sure that Anne won't need those things herself.

Panel 4: We get a callback to the "Of course she's in the family way....she kept the baby stuff" joke that baffled Elly the last time when Anne says that at this stage, it's better to give than to conceive. (Hint: It's baffling her all over again.)

Summary: Not only are we seeing Elly react the way I thought I would to "Better you than me", we're looking at a reminder that Lynn has always had the odd idea that a spare room is in want of a child in it.
