Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 28 June 2018

Elly engages in an exercise in futility when she tries to get John to imagine what a pain in the ass being pregnant is. As the strip that has him thought-bubble about how awkward it is for HIM to be at Lamaze indicates, Elly's demonstration refuses to take.

(Strip Number 1472, Original Publication Date, 29 June 1989)

Panel 1: For some reason, we see Elly putting Baby Lizzie in a knapsack.

Panel 2: She then starts to put the knapsack with Lizzie in it onto a confused John.

Panel 3: Having made it look as if John is pregnant, Elly says "There!" in a sort of unearned triumph.

Panel 4: She then gets to the point by telling John to imagine having that on for nine months. Said point is, of course, John making a dismissive comment about how Elly must have been exaggerating pain and discomfort that can't exist because he never felt it, the fucking moron.

Summary: As I've said before, John has distinct trouble with putting himself in the position of the people he lectures so it's not as if what Elly is trying to do here will take hold or alter his thinking. Modifying his opinion means admitting to being cruel and stupid and selfish and thus is never going to happen.
