Snarky Candiru2

Mike no longer kicks Lizzie's bassinet out of pea-brained spite but the whiny little dodo still hears his elders praise Lizzie and comes away with the impression that he's about to be asked "Are you still here?"

(Strip Number 5150, Original Publication Date, 22 June 1989)

Panel 1: A few days later, we find ourselves watching Elly and Carrie show Baby Lizzie off to Anne Nichols. As Mike looks on, Anne marvels about how she's the sweetest little thing while Carrie gushes about how precious she is (and, thus by definition, how precious Mike ain't).

Panel 2: Annie notes that she's have Elly's hair while Carrie states that she'll have John's (myopic) eyes.

Panel 3: As they walk away, Annie says "What a good baby....so lucky to have a girl" and Carrie says "So adorable." Since neither woman ever quite realized that Elly never made the least effort to make Mike feel included, they have no idea that what he heard is "So much better than that scruffy little boy you're cursed with now."

Panel 4: He no longer kicks the bassinet out of imbecile jealousy but instead leans over it and says "Bleah!!" in disgust like a Peanuts character to signify his immortal disdain for the horrible and monstrous interloper who wants to take EVERYTHING from him.

Summary: We've just seen the genesis of all of Michael's incoherent maundering about how it's all magically Elizabeth's fault for the disharmony between them because he cannot look in the mirror and see himself for what he is: a tedious drone whose response to the very idea of having to share is to whine "WHY DO YOU HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE ME?!"
