Snarky Candiru2

Friday, 1 June 2018

We come to the home stretch with tedious bullcrap about how "Not wanting Elly to win" and "not having anything worth watching" collide messily.

(Strip Number 5144, Original Publication Date, 2 June 1989)

Panel 1: A little while later, Liz tells Mike (who's actually wearing a helmet when going biking despite that not being the case later when Lynn wants to make a pedestrian joke about vanity) that the punishment is over and they can watch television again. Mike doesn't want to just rush right back in and says so.

Note: The helmet is an addition by someone more aware of modern times than Lynn is....which would explain why it sits so awkwardly on Mike's head.

Panel 2: Lynn panders to the base by having Mike tell her that it wouldn't do to rush right in because Elly must not be allowed to win and her kids must not look as if they care for her rules. Liz wonders why they must not look as if they care about Elly's opinion.

Panel 3: Mike explains that it's a matter of principle and personal pride that children must never allow their parents to think that they have control over their teeming get and says that they should wait at least an hour. Liz asks why.

Panel 4: She's gobsmacked when he says that nothing comes on until then.

Summary: Mike is meant to be an ungrateful child who resents poor Elly's attempt to make sure he has a better life but he's probably simply aware that once again, Mommy veered off to another direction because Liz made her feel like the crazy monster she kind of is.
