Indignant Candiru

Thursday, 24 May 2018

For someone who claims not to be arguing with Michael about how idiotic, over-the-top and unfair her ridiculously inconsistent punishment is, Elly sure does look the part.

(Strip Number 5137, Original Publication Date, 25 May 1989)

Panel 1: Since we're supposed to forget the whole "swiping beer" and "reading about sex" thing because Lynn has, we're back to simply arguing that Mike can't be deprived of his fix. Since the two of them have forgotten yesterday and Tuesday, we're back to talking about how "making Liz swear shouldn't actually result in consequences" when Mike tells Elly that her ridiculous, over-the-top and super-hypocritical punishment is unfair. I'm forced to award the point that it is so fair to Elly for the wrong damned reason because he's totally skating on confessing to underaged drinking because she's more exercised that Liz is swearing than whatever pointless thing that might have made John frog-march him back into the house when he got home from whenever. Meanwhile, Farley has become Canadian Content Daisy from Blondie because he's reacting to the cheap theatrics by mildly freaking out.

Panel 2: The poor pooch looks as if he's watching a tennis game being played in Hell because the idiot children trade "Is too, is not" like the spoiled brats they both are.

Panel 3: When Elly denies his claim that she doesn't understand the problem, I'm inclined to believe the theatrical idiot whining about missing reruns more that I am the oblivious dope who glossed over the whole swiping beer thing. This is because I remember that Elly's actual problem is that LIZ is swearing but she can't tell Mike that because he's not supposed to know why he's being punished lest her authority crumble to nothing.

Panel 4: Elly does that Pious Looking In The Other Direction thing because she thinks telling him "And as I said before, Michael, I refuse to argue with you" actually means that she's taking the moral high road.

Summary: Elly impresses me as being stupid enough to believe that since she said she wasn't arguing with Mike, she wasn't arguing with Mike. It's like how she says that she's loving, fair, firm and stuff when she ain't.
