Elly uses the Penetrating Death Stare on Marie The Stylist when she tries to sell her hair care products that would preserve the hated new look.

(Strip Number 1436, Original Publication Date, 4 April 1989)

Panel 1: Since Marie has probably dealt with hundreds of clients who react poorly when their perm takes a lotta time to settle down from the Brillo Pad look, she attempts in vain to reassure Elly that like, WOW!!, this is a whole new her. This is foolish because permed hair does not cure Elly of the preconception that people who mildly inconvenience her should be made to apologize forever and ever and always.

Panel 2: Marie then tries to upsell Elly on hair care products like she was trained to. Since Elly seems to have gotten the same gift card to the same sort of 'strange' salon Lynn did, she's also baffled when she's told that she needs perm conditioner, styling mousse, a styling comb and a diffuser.

Panel 3: The reason is that she's already sunk sixty eight bucks into a look she hates. Marie makes the mistake of telling Elly that she needs to do this to preserve her new look.

Panel 4: Elly screws her face into the same expression of murderous rage she adopts when children tell her insane and monstrous lies about how when they screw up, it's not part of their plan to destroy and enslave her and thought-bubbles "Preserve THIS!!!!" at a properly intimidated Marie.

Summary: Elly probably still thinks that it's the young lady's fault that her hair goes all wacky and junk when exposed to the chemicals she used. Blaming her own effed-up genetics means that people who mildly inconvenience her are not in the wrong and don't have to be destroyed and that would be terrible.
