Snarky Candiru2

Tuesday, 27 March 2018

One would think that by now, Elly would have learned not to ask juvenile wise-ass John about her appearance because she's always going to get a smart-alecky insult. One would be wrong.

(Strip Number, Original Publication Date, 28 March 1989)

Panel 1: As she gets ready for bed, we see Elly trying to pull the bags away from her eyes.

Panel 2: When he asks Elly what she's doing pushing her cheeks back, she tells John that she's seeing how she'd look with a facelift.

Panel 3: When she asks him, John tells Elly that of course, she doesn't need a face lift.

Panel 4: Since there isn't anything heavy within immediate reach, John makes a stupid crack about how he can still see her neck because he doesn't have to duck.

Summary: You would also be in error if you were to think that eventually, John would keep his fat trap shut or admit that yes, you're never too old or too young to be sensitive about your appearance. Also, howtheduck is right to say that this is probably Lynn's body issues distorting Rod's response to her asking him if she needed cosmetic surgery. Remember, she makes it a point of pride that no one is allowed to make her feel good about her appearance.
