Snarky Candiru2

We start off the "Elly gets a perm" arc with another reminder that Elly has always seen herself as being about ten years older (and also ten pounds heavier) than she actually is.

(Strip Number 5111, Original Publication Date, 27 March 1989)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Elly make the same sort of stupid mistake she's going to make next year and let her idiot son's comments about looking like an aging hippie get to her.

Panel 2: Since she has amnesia and lives in a state of denial as to how she's always thought she looked like Whistler's Mother, she claims to have noticed her frown lines and sagging cheeks for the first time ever again.

Panel 3: We then get the annual comment about how she's reached the point where youth gives way to a graceful maturity.

Panel 4: This elicits the standard reaction: her grabbing all the cosmetics ever and swearing to fight it every step of the way.

Summary: This leads to two things: Liz wondering when she's going to grow out of being anxious about her looks, Mike's indifference and John's admiration (which might lead to icky, scary, painful sex) making Elly wonder why she did this in the first place.
