Snarky Candiru2

Sunday, 25 March 2015

Today, Farley is evil and wrong because he tries to get away from getting manhandled and tossed into water by the angry creature.

(Strip Number 7040, Original Publication Date, 26 March 1989)

Panel 1: We start off with Farley peering anxiously from behind the bathroom door as Elly starts to draw a bath.

Panel 2: He hides under an end table because when Angry Thing yells the noise "FARLEE" in THAT tone of voice, the result is always painful.

Panel 3: Farley yelps in terror when it's obvious that the angry thing wants to dump him in water again.

Panel 4: Once again, he disobeys her thought-bubbled command "Don't shake."

Panel 5: Since Elly insists on doing this alone, she didn't have the towel she wants to dry him with with her. Since he wandered off instead of staying put, she freaks out when she chases after him.

Panel 6: Neither dog or woman are happy about her having to blow-dry all that fur of his.

Panel 7: Farley looks at us in horror when Elly gets aggressive about coming him out.

Panel 8: Since Liz and Mike usually absent themselves when the dog needs tending to and only interact with him when it's fun, Liz talks up how great sheepdogs are.

Panel 9: When Liz asks her "Wouldn't it be great if we had two?", the thought of twice the work dumped on her causes Elly to gaze upon her child in horror.

Summary: This is 'hilarious' because not only does Elly not actually want the sheepdog she does have, she's really 'ambivalent' about the children she's got. Also, look for notes that hint that she thinks all dogs are as high-maintenance as sheepdogs.
