Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 31 January 2018

We see the first example of a recurring theme today when Liz loses her shit because Candace won't validate her feelings of self-loathing.

(Strip Number 5085, Original Publication Date, 1 February 1989)

Panel 1: Liz uses the same huffy, disbelieving tone of voice her mother does when she insists on not seeing how good she has it when she angrily rebuffs the girl with the ponytail's idle wish that she could be her. The other girl does something that Elly cannot and will not and asks her what's the matter with her.

Panel 2: We learn the other girl's name when Liz says "Look at me, Candace....I've got the stoopidest nose in the world." Candace doesn't play fair because she says that she never noticed how stoopid Liz's nose is.

Panel 3: This causes an Elly-like eruption in which Liz asks her howcome she never noticed a nose like this. Candace dunno why.

Panel 4: She then baffles Liz by saying that maybe she was too busy looking at the face it was hanging off of.

Summary: Liz has, as howtheduck said, become so fixated on minor imperfections that she's lost her damned mind. Her madness has taken the form of standing in hallways bellowing about how unfair people are because they don't tear her apart for being too hideous to live but instead lie to her and compliment her on her looks.
