Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 14 December 2017

We start to see why Elly's plan to Make Christmas Super-Wonderful is a non-starter when she's gobsmacked after Danny makes a smart remark about sleeping standing up when the cost of congestion is made manifest.

(Strip Number 1510, Original Publication Date, 15 December 1988)

Panel 1: As she helps put Elly's coat away, Bev tells the Pattersons it's sure good having them there and that Will and Carrie will be there soon enough. This is because Lynn forgot that she'd placed them an hours' drive out of Miami, MB and thinks of them as living a mile down the road from the Pattersons like Tom and Ruth did in real life.

Panel 2: The oldest Pattersons have been assigned the master bedroom. John and Elly get to sleep in Laura's room, the girls will sleep in the sewing nook and Mike gets shat on because he's been made to sleep in the hall.

Panel 3: Elly blanks out on the fact that Mike's getting a kick to the groin accommodation-wise because she notices that Bev left herself and Danny out of the list. When she asks them where they're sleeping, Danny tells her not to worry.

Panel 4: He then makes a smart remark about how if you live on a farm, you learn how to sleep standing up.

Summary: Danny is, of course, making a bad joke at Elly's expense because he knows his sister-in-law well enough to know that she takes everything farmers say at face value. We know that he and Bev probably have a fold-out couch in the living room but she's going to die thinking that they slept in a paddock with the horses.
