Snarky Candiru2

Monday, 11 December 2017

As they pack for the trip, Elly finds out that John's been teaching the kids cynical parodies of Christmas carols that have him howl about being the only one who cares about how much things cost.

(Strip Number 1508, Original Publication Date, 12 December 1988)

Panel 1: As she packs for the trip to the farm, Elly overheads Lizzie as she sings a distorted version of Winter Wonderland: "Later on/We'll perspire/As we stare/At the fire/And face so afraid/the bills left unpaid/Walking in a Winter Wonderland!"

Panel 2: This causes Elly to stare in confused horror for a second when she tries to figure out why Lizzie wants to have everyone arrested by the Christmas police.

Panel 3: She then yells to John to ask him if he's been teaching Elizabeth Christmas carols again.

Summary: Next year or so, John mutters about glorying in excesses because it bothers him that no one aside from him cares for how much it costs to make things merry and bright. That being said, I'd rather have Pogo and the swamp creatures Deck Us All With Boston Charlie.
