Snarky Candiru2

Friday, 8 December 2017

Today's strip reminds us that Elly remembers something that the children would prefer she didn't: the pets they beg for because they promise to look after them always end up becoming Mommy's pets in the end.

(Strip Number 5057, Original Publication Date, 9 December 1988)

Panel 1: As Elly mends a pair of slacks, Lizzie asks her if there are going to be cows when they get to the farm. Elly says yes, there are.

Panel 2: She also confirms Lizzie's inquiry as to the presence of chickens and pigs by saying that she thinks that Dan (still) has a few.

Panel 3: When Lizzie gets all enthusiastic about all the kittens Uncle Danny MUST have in his barn, Elly tells her the answer is NO.

Panel 4: Lizzie frowns as she walks off and thought-bubbles about how Mommy must have thought she wanted something she wasn't going to look after.

Summary: I'm hundred percent with Elly today. That's because I remember two things that Lizzie has yet to experience. The first thing is that when all is said and done, everyone agrees that Farley was Elly's dog if he was anyone's despite Mike's promise that, yeah, he would take care of him. Second, April winds up taking care of the rabbit Liz won. The only pet she had that lasted was Shimsaa and she comes along fifteen years or so in the future.
