Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 18 October 2017

We switch from hectoring kids about how liking sweets means they want to dance on her grave to Lynn bitching at the whole damned family for clearly wanting to chain her to a stove by saying mean, hateful things like "we're starting to forget what you look like" when Over-Scheduling Elly pencils in 'face time with the family' when called on over-extending and over-committing.

(Strip Number 5035, Original Publication Date, 19 October 1988)

Panel 1: As Elly gets ready to head out, she tells John that she won't be home for supper because she's got another meeting to attend. He sets the tone for the rest of the week by whining "Again?"

Panel 2: He cruelly and selfishly points out that she's had somewhere to go every night this week and asks when they're supposed to have time together.

Panel 3: She assures him that it's not as bad as he thinks and bids him to come to the calendar to see why. He assents to this.

Panel 4: He's not mollified by her cheerily asking him when she can pencil him in.

Summary: We get Round Two of this next January when we see why Elly does stuff like this: she can't say "No" to people who dump tasks in her lap IF they provide her with a public identity. She doesn't like working for free and we get reminded of this when Mike makes an awkward, condescending and demeaning attempt to sell her on the virtues of just hanging back and not stressing about everything.

Something I forgot I had.... I think this was from a brief period when I had an online forum that was a kind of companion to ARB. Milborough adults were taking a creative-writing course, and various ARB regulars were posting as them. This, I think, was a creative-writing assignment submitted by Elly.

Edit: Come to think of it, and having checked the properties--this must have been me imagining what Elly submitted during her night-school class during the new-run era. I see from the properties that this seems have been created in 2009. I am not sure where I might have posted this.
