Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 5 October 2017

As I said last thread, we jump over Ritual Farley Abuse so that horrid wordplay can be thought-bubbled because Elly is stupid enough to think that her children DECIDE to grow larger than she anticipated because they HAAAAAAAAATE are and WAAAAAAAAANT her to suffer.

(Strip Number 5026, Original Publication Date, 6 October 1988)

Panel 1: We continue on with the lead-up to Winter as Lizzie shows her hatred of her mother's love by declaring that her snowsuit is kind of too tight.

Panel 2: As one could expect, Elly's reaction to this is a theatrical over-reaction that her children have by now become numb to. Watching Mommy look as if she's been shot in the gut with a harpoon when she says that she bought it extra-big last year to avoid this problem is so familiar by now, it no longer registers.

Panel 3: Since Liz hasn't any idea why this is a problem because she sees Mommy act as if she's being flayed alive when asked the time, she smiles a smile that anyone who ain't Elly will know to be innocent when she says that she must have grown. (This is somewhat an ironic thing to say because she appears to have shrunk owing to the fact that Lynn probably planned to have her say more.)

Panel 4: Elly's reaction is to thought-bubble the word "GROAN!!!" because Lynn cares not for the needs of people too stubborn to learn English and because Elly thinks that her children love seeing her in pain.

Summary: This sets the tone for the rest of the week, I'd say. We're about to be bombarded with the idea that children who can't know better plot to keep an Elly who loves dowdiness and bargoons looking like someone who loves dowdiness and bargoons. No admission that the kids aren't trying to kill her or especially aware of how much things cost will be made because that gets Elly off of her cross.
