Snarky Candiru2

Tuesday, 6 June 2017

Today, we have the strip that launches a thousand plot threads when a desperate Elly tells a reluctant John that she needs her cramped and outmoded old kitchen remodeled yesterday.

(Strip Number 1296, Original Publication Date, 6 June 1988)

Panel 1: We start things off with Elly having a hell of a time getting supper started because the clapped-out of heap of a stove drives her nuts and the rusted old drawer hasn't worked for years.

Panel 2: John looks over a doorway at Elly when she yells for Farley to get out of her way because she's got no room to maneuver with him sitting her.

Panel 3: Having noticed that Elly is struggling with putting supper on the table, John asks her what he can do to help.

Panel 4: When what he can do to help is to bankroll remodeling a kitchen he never uses, John is terrified beyond mortal comprehension for a stupid reason.

Summary: There is a vision that leads John like a pillar of flame by night and a pillar of smoke by day. It is the vision of Elly being a naive child-woman trying to spend him into the poorhouse asking for things she doesn't really need because that's what old soaks like that fucking redneck Arnold tell him and also because he zoned out or ascribed things to hormones when his mother actually complained.
