Snarky Candiru2

Saturday, 8 April 2017

We end the week with Lynn using her horrifying compulsion to pun to start to make a stupid point about how heedless and cruel boys supposedly are.

(Strip Number 1276, Original Publication Date, 8 April 1988)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Lizzie pointing out the pretty flower that's growing on the lawn; Gayle (who has probably been passive-aggressived by Molly into stepping back into her older sister's shadow) identifies it as a crocus.

Panel 2: Lizzie sets up the untranslatable punchline by asking why it's gots the funny name of croak-us. As she does so, we see Lawrence and Mike engaged in thesort of futile waste of time boys get up to when they don't listen to their mothers: running around playing tag.

Panel 3: Out of nowhere, Mike and Lawrence trample it underfoot because boys left to their own devices simply waste their time racing about heedlessly.

Panel 4: Since Lizzie thinks that the function of a crocus is to croak, she mutters "Oh" in misguided comprehension.

Summary: Lynn returns to this theme later this year when she has Lizzie tell Mike that he should care about flowers that she knows personally instead of racing around destroying things. Reason: she knows about the feeling in her children's limbs that makes running around feel good and yearns for its permanent abolition.

Don Cruikshank named 2016 Miami Citizen of the Year

Don Cruikshank, or as we know him in For Better or For Worse as Uncle Danny got an award last year. Here is the link to the article:

There’s nothing in here about wife Beth Cruikshank or ex-sister-in-law Lynn Johnston, but there is a pretty good picture of the modern day Don Cruikshank and a description of how he is appreciated in Miami, Manitoba. He seems like a pretty fun guy and aside from the white hair, he looks pretty much the same as the picture from Lynn's website. See the pictures after the cut.
