Snarky Candiru2

Tuesday, 21 March 2017

John's attempt to cajole Lizzie into making Elly shut up about finding the tooth comes a-cropper when a frightened, heartsick child says that she ACCIDENTALLY swallowed it.

(Strip Number 4942, Original Publication Date, 21 March 1988)

Panel 1: John comes in to bat clean-up for Elly yet again by telling Lizzie that it's not a good idea to try to fool the Tooth Fairy. After all, he's a dentist and even he hasn't seen her. This gets the compliance Elly couldn't get.

Panel 2: He then asks her to get the tooth from its hiding place so as to put it under the pillow. Sadly, Elizabeth cannot comply.

Panel 3: When he says that she could not have hidden it THAT well, she says that she did.

Panel 4: She then bursts into tears and howls that she swallowed her tooth. This horrifies John.

Summary: This is yet another in a long series of blunders caused by the fact that Lizzie isn't especially all that bright or all that endowed with foresight. The problem is that Lizzie's being a goof requires Elly to get up at pitch-dark o'thirty in the morning and children who force that outcome are all simply horrible.
