Snarky Candiru2

Elly's need to boast about helping Gayle is undercut by Lizzie's need to be a jealous twit grousing about how someone else is loved best.

(Strip Number 4939, Original Publication Date, 5 February 1988)

Panel 1: A few hours later, we find Elly starting to set the table and telling John that Gayle Next Door said that no one ever pays attention to her.

Panel 2: When she tells him that she fussed over her, did over her hair and made her feel better about herself, John says that it's great.

Panel 3: When a grumpy Lizzie says that she doesn't think it's so great, Elly would like to know why.

Panel 4: When Lizzie tells Elly that when she was paying all that attention to Gayle, she never paid attention to her own child, Elly slumps forward in confusion and defeat.

Summary: Given that this is Gayle's only star turn, I don't really see the problem. Oh, if the character had really talked to Lynn, we could have had cause for a sort of rivalry but she didn't so that's about where we stand. Next time we see her, she'll only hang out with Lizzie and be in her sister's shadow again.
