Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 17 November 2016

Michael fakes sick because he doesn't want Elly to go back to work and leave him alone with the monsters or some shit. This is so Lynn can publicly shame her son for saying that she tended to forget things like birthdays, ages and names.

(Strip Number 1226, Original Publication Date, 19 November 1987)

Panel 1: We find Elly putting her coat back on and asking Mike, who's reading an Archie comic, if he'll be okay because she wants to go back to work.

Panel 2: Since Mike is not okay with the idea of her being at work in the first place, he starts to overact shamelessly and fake having fever and pain.

Panel 3: Since she's kinda stupid, she doesn't call him on his weak bullshit and says "If you want me to stay home, say so."

Panel 4: Rather than say "Yes" and get a lecture about what an ungrateful snot he is, he gets really maudlin when he says "It's up to you." Since Elly would rather feel guilty than eat, she buys the bullshit and deflates.

Summary: As I've said before, Elly is not made of very stern stuff. Her insecurity is a sort of back-door to her psyche that her son can exploit shamelessly.
