Snarky Candiru2

Friday, 28 October 2016

As Elly waxes nostalgic about the habit Jim had of combining the tawdry and inferior American festival of Halloween with a proper British Guy Fawkes Day of blowing your fingers off to prove how much you hate Catholics, John uses bad wordplay to talk about how his kids can't get along.

(Strip Number 4883, Original Publication Date, 30 October 1987)

Panel 1: As she sets out the bowl of toothbrushes and toothpaste John insists on offering up for Halloween, Elly talks about how they always had fireworks at Halloween back home in Vancouver.

Panel 2: After they made the rounds, Jim would set them off in the front yard.

Panel 3: Suddenly, they hear Lizzie yelling at Mike because he's trying to horn in on her attempt to go trick or treating by herself.

Panel 4: John makes a sophomoric comment as to how you can't have Halloween without fireworks.

Summary: This sort of crap is as funny as one of Britain's seasonal traditions: showing public information films about people blowing their fingers off like idiots on 5 November.
