Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 8 September 2016

One of the other players scares Elly by insisting that bingo is as addictive as the coffin nail she's smoking.

(Strip Number 4858, Original Publication Date, 10 September 1987)

Panel 1: Having entered the hall, Elly marvels at the size and states that she had no idea how popular bingo was.

Panel 2: Thelma points her to the table where she usually sits.

Panel 3: As they sit down, Elly indulgently says that she guesses she can play one game. Her patronizing tone of voice causes a woman smoking a cigarette (who vesper_xeni calls Frieda) to repeat the phrase 'one game'.

Panel 4: Frieda (because it's a good name for her) tells a gobsmacked Elly that just the one game means that she'll be hooked for life.

Summary: This startles Elly because she might develop an addiction that competes with eating her kids' leftovers and drinking coffee with Connie so they can compare notes about how horrible children are.
