Snarky Candiru2

Saturday, 9 June 2016

We end the week with a reminder that Liz has something of a rebellious streak that likes to test limits; given the format and the creator, it's an evil thing that is eventually conquered so that she might too be as bland and lifeless as the others.

(Strip Number 1170, Original Publication Date, 11 July 1987)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Lizzie watching over the wall as Elly reminds her that it's bedtime.

Panel 2: Lizzie is hiding in the shrubbery watching Elly get more insistent about it being time to come in.

Panel 3: She's hiding next to the trash can when Raging Nitwit Elly starts screaming about coming in this minute OR ELSE!!!

Panel 4: As she gets marched into the house, Lizzie thought-bubbles that she likes to wait until Elly means it.

Summary: While we're probably meant to think that children rebel against mothers because they're selfish and cruel, let's remind ourselves that most people see Elly's trademark rages and hair-trigger temper as something to exploit. It's almost impossible not to resist goading someone that easy to infuriate.
