Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 16 June 2016

John demonstrates a valuable lesson: "Never let someone as gullible and thin-skinned as Elly know what you really think of the unflattering clothing she insists on buying."

(Strip Number 4818, Original Publication Date, 18 June 1987)

Panel 1: The reason Elly called for John is that she wants to show off the ultra-ugly designer outfit she blew heavy coin on.

Panel 2: She boasts about how the padded shoulders and over-sized top create a box-like silhouette that doesn't flatter her physique in the slightest before asking him if he likes it.

Panel 3: Since he likes things like 'breathing', 'eating' and 'peace and quiet', he lies like a motherhubbard about how flattering the horrible eighties outfit of making Olive Oyl look like a waitress at Hooters is.

Panel 4: He then tells Phil "So much for honesty in marriage."

Summary: We have just learned that not getting killed by an angry idiot who doesn't want to admit that she got suckered by a huckster designer is a better virtue than honesty.
