Snarky Candiru2

Monday, 4 January 2015

The week begins with a reminder that Lawrence is not exactly sold on the idea of having Greg's children becoming a part of his life.

(Strip Number 4739, Original Publication Date, 5 January 1987)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Mike tell Lawrence that since Greg married his mom, he's got a new dad.

Panel 2: Lawrence confirms this but mentions a problem. Said problem is Greg's two daughters from his previous marriage.

Panel 3: Mike asks him why that's a problem.

Panel 4: When Lawrence says that they're moving in, Mike is mildly confused because all the soaps MAAAAAA watches give the kids to the mother.

Summary: This, I think, is supposed to set things up so that Lawrence is an evil, conflict-causing little boy because of his evil, conflict-causing refusal to admit that good boys don't have opinions or free will and cheerfully accept whatever adults do. In short, that burning Aaron feels is his mother's anger at objecting to the least degree to Rod's presence in his life. Also, while a reasonable person might expect that Greg's kids live with their mom, Lynn knows that they don't so we're supposed to know that too.
