Gordo gets in some bad wordplay at Mike's expense because he fights a pitched battle against trying on school clothes.

(Strip Number 4666, Original Publication Date, 29 August 1986)

Panel 1: As Mike, Gordon and Brian sit on the sidewalk just chilling, Elly barges in to remind Mike that he hasn't tried on his school clothes yet.

Panel 2: We get a broad hint as to why Mike doesn't like doing so when she does the whole "I can't look at you because you're bad" thing while lecturing him about the need to go through his closet and drawers.

Panel 3: She then blames him for her need to escalate to a full-on battle the instant someone disagrees with her and whines about how HE makes it into a battle.

Panel 4: As Mike's silhouette angers Elly's silhouette when he once again tells her his evil lie about how the second she doesn't get the craven and automatic obedience she and John seem to believe themselves to be entitled to, she turns into a ragebeast, Gordo makes Brian face-palm by saying "So that's why they call it a wardrobe."

Summary: As I said yesterday, Mike's problem is that he's self-absorbed and stupid. As we see here, Elly's problem is that she's too damned thin-skinned and belligerent. Neither person sees this. Neither person will.
