Snarky Candiru2

Saturday, 11 July 2015

We end the week with Elly being confused by little kid logic because she doesn't get kids any more than her mom did.

(Strip Number 4651, Original Publication Date, 12 July 1986)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Lizzie watching Elly garden. As she looks at a ladybug, she asks Elly why there's bugs; since Elly doesn't really know either, she says "God made them for birds to eat."

Panel 2: When Lizzie asks why there's birds, Elly repeats the pattern by saying that God made them to sing because she doesn't know either so assumes God made something to do what that something does.

Panel 3: As she tries working this out in her head, Lizzie looks at a spider and reacts in mild disgust to this whole idea by sticking her tongue out and plagiarizing Charles Schulz.

Panel 4: She then confuses Elly by asking her how the birds could possibly sing knowing that they're fulla bugs?!

Summary: Elly means well but she doesn't really know much. Eventually Lizzie starts to catch on to Elly's ignorance when she starts to notice that Mommy tends to turn "I don't know" into a torrent-of-consciousness rant.
