Snarky Candiru2

Today's strip reminds us that Elly would love motherhood a damned sight more if it weren't for the fact that her ungrateful brats keep getting in her way all the time.

(Strip Number 4608, Original Publication Date, 8 May 1986)

Panel 1: As Annie tells Elly that she'd wanted to be a mother ever since she was small and asks Elly for her opinion on the subject, we notice something that they do not: Christopher and Richard hogging a ball and being jerks about it to Lizzie.

Panel 2: As Elly waxes philosophical about the fact that she looked forward to having a family because it's something she needed somehow, Lizzie tries getting her attention.

Panel 3: Lizzie then makes the mistake of insisting on interrupting Mommy when she boasts about the fulfillment that comes with being a mother.

Panel 4: This results in everyone being taken aback by the inevitable outcome: Saint Elly The Martyr angrily telling The Grand Waste Of Time to get lost because real human beings are talking.

Summary: This sort of highlights what makes Elly a horrible mother; she only wanted children because they're something she was supposed to have and she doesn't know how to relate to any of the people she and John made. Worse still, she sees having to sympathize with their useless concerns as a defeat because they're trying to make her agree to an evil lie about how children feel pain, fear, embarrassment and sorrow when everyone knows that childhood is now a carefree romp now that she's in her thirties.
