Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 29 April 2015

When John compliments Elly about getting published, she makes an arch comment about how poetry is supposed to rhyme.

(Strip Number 1045, Original Publication Date, 30 April 1986)

Panel 1: John congratulates Elly because while knowing she could write well, to be published is quite an accomplishment.

Panel 2: Elly tells him that she is still surprised that she made the grade because of how different and odd her poem is.

Panel 3: John asks what she thinks is so different about it.

Panel 4: Elly speaks for the juvenile philistine writing this by going all bleary-eyed and saying that it actually rhymes.

Summary: Just as Lynn and Elly dismiss jazz as being discordant noise because neither of them can sing along to it like people are 'supposed' to, the over-grown child makes noise about how poetry is supposed to rhyme.
