Snarky Candiru2

Learning-impaired John reminds us that he's never going to shake this whole maternal instinct thing that clouds how he sees the women in his life.

(Strip Number 1020, Original Publication Date, 11 February 1986)

Panel 1: As she reaches for something in the cupboard, Elly reminds John that Jean's daughter is about a year old so it might a smart idea to ask her if she'd like her old job back.

Panel 2: John gets all panicky and weird when he starts babbling about how Jean made some sort of comment about how she wanted to stay at home, raise her family and spend every moment with her child.

Panel 3: Johnny starts to talk like a Fox News anchor when he blithers about how she's suggesting that HE should ask a woman who's devoted her life to MOTHERHOOD to come back to work.

Panel 4: When she smirks like Les Moore and says "Trust me," she only succeeds in confusing him.

Summary: This is because John doesn't remember that he lives in a comic strip that insists that it's axiomatic that Elly's resentment of her children is a direct result of being forced to stay in their company for far too long. As we'll see with Deanna, mothers NEED to escape from their clingy, selfish and demanding children or they'll naturally grow to hate them.
