Snarky Candiru2

Saturday, 7 February 2015

We end the Christmas arc with John glumly thought-bubbling because Elly took advantage of an opportunity to make the house something she'd be proud to live in.

(Strip Number 1019, Original Publication Date, 8 February 1986)

Panel 1: When John finally gets Gauthier's bills for services rendered, he's astonished that it cost that much to do a simple plastering job.

Panel 2: Elly explains that while he was here, she got him to do some painting and fix the wallpaper, the closet and stairwell.

Panel 3: He makes the narrow-eyed squint of rage when she tells him that it was a great opportunity.

Panel 4: Cheapskate John thought-bubbles that when opportunity knocks, he has to open his checkbook to let it in.

Summary: Again, we find John sitting around whining about insane expenses he can easily afford when he feels as if 'his' money should be spent on ego-gratifying toys. Clearly, Lynn is sending Rod a message about his duty to abandon his interests for the greater good.
