Snarky Candiru2

Sunday, 16 November 2014

Today's strip is a rather baffling example of John over-reacting to something because he anticipates Elly's even greater over-reaction to his inaction.

(Strip Number 7203, Original Publication Date, 17 November 1985)

Panel 1: We find John and Elly window-shopping on a pleasant late autumn day.

Panel 2: Suddenly, something about John has caught her attention.

Panel 3: She tells him what that something is: he's wearing dark coloured underpants under light-coloured trousers and they're showing through.

Panel 4: Rather than get defensive or say "And" in a distracted manner, John's immediate response is to scream "Oh, heavens, NO!!!" in a theatrical manner.

Panel 5: He then rushes the two of them off to a menswear store.

Panel 6: He tells the clerk not to bother wrapping the new trousers he bought because he'll be wearing them out.

Panel 7: He then asks her if he can now go out.

Panel 8: Elly calls him on really over-reacting.

Panel 9: When he tells her that he'd do anything for her, the realization that all of that was for her benefit confounds her.

Summary: I should think that this might be Lynn nagging Rod about some of his odder sartorial choices and how if he really loved her, he too would go crazy like this.
