Snarky Candiru2

Sunday, 10 August 2014

In today's strip, we remind ourselves that a ten-year old boy and a thirty-six year old woman perceive time as proceeding at different rates.

(Strip Number 7193, Original Publication Date, 11 August 1985)

Panel 1: We find ourselves in the kitchen watching Mike watching Elly sweeping the floor and raising a cloud of floating pop-art captions.

Panel 2: Next, he watches her folding a load of clothes and shaking out more non-sound effects.

Panel 3: As she vacuums the floor, Mike asks how long it's going to be before they head out to the cinema.

Panel 4: Since she forgot to what it was like to be ten, she tells him "Not until after dinner. You have all day to wait."

Panel 5: His response is to ask her to fill the yawning void of hours by playing a game with him.

Panel 6: Since SHE sees the hours as zipping by at a ridiculous speed that she cannot keep up with, she tells him that she's busy and has a million things to do.

Panel 7: She doesn't know how she's supposed to get half of her chores done, time is moving that fast.

Panel 8: We thus find him thought-bubbling about why it is that time passes so slowly while she wonders why it moves so fast.

Summary: Since the strip is by, of and for women who go out of their way to not understand children, Mike is in the wrong because he's supposed to realize that time is zipping along at a prodigious speed.
