Today's strip depicts Mike and Lizzie as being more prepared for the current contingency than Mommy is.

(Strip Number 797, Original Publication Date, 7 February 1985)

Panel 1: As Elly roots through the cupboards, she tells Richard that since his mommy is running a little late, it seems that he's going to eat dinner at the Pattermanse.

Panel 2: An enthusiastic Mike says that he's going to get the high chair out of the Miracle Crawl Space.

Panel 3: An equally thrilled Lizzie says she's going to get the bibs, plastic plates and baby spoons.

Panel 4: Since Elly remembers that she doesn't have baby food in the house, she asks Richard how he likes his steak.

Summary: It turns out that everyone else in the world being more on the ball than Elly is turns into a thing as the years go on. I remember one time when she goes into full-on flopsweat about how dinner isn't going to be done when there's a cut-away to Mike asking Liz what side the dessert forks go on.

Off Topic: The shape of mail delivery to come.....

Remember last year when I talked about how the Feds had finally gotten around to taking the penny out of circulation? Well, it seems that they're not done getting rid of unprofitable traditions yet. This is because at some point within the next five years, door-to-door mail delivery is going to be a thing of the past in this country. What's supposed to happen is that instead of that, people would have to pick up their mail at community mailboxes which are colloquially known as superboxes. This is said to be in the interest of reducing costs but there are certain inherent flaws involved. The largest is that little thought seems to have been given to the needs of the disabled and elderly.
