Snarky Candiru2

In today's strip, we find out that it wouldn't have mattered if Mike had dressed up as Zombie Jughead; that's because John's need to hand out toothbrushes has destroyed his family's street cred anyway.

(Strip Number 4447, Original Publication Date, 30 October 1984)

Panel 1: We join the trick-or-treating in progress at the Baird residence; it would seem that Thelma is inviting panicky commentary about razor blades by handing out toffee apples.

Panel 2: Lawrence tells the group that his mom is giving out all day suckers while the Clarks have licorice.

Panel 3: Darryl boasts that his folks are givin'out bubble gum before asking Mike what the Pattersons are givin'out.

Panel 4: Mike shamefully admits that his parents are handing out tooth brushes.

Summary: While the idea itself is a practical one, the enthusiasm with which John does so tells me that he's the sort of filthy dick who will go on and boast that being a monkey running a hot dog cart is a wonderful opportunity instead of an exercise in humiliation.

Sort of off-topic but not quite: Calvin's Mom is better than Elly is.....

The interesting thing about all of this mess is that I'm reminded of a Calvin and Hobbes strip in which he comes up to his mom and says that he wants to buy a Satan-worshipping, suicide advocating record album. What his mom does is tell him that since none of the bands in question have offed themselves, they're just a bunch of hucksters trying to outrage people for profit. Compare that with the crazy crap Elly is pulling and it's kinda easy to see who the better parent is.
