Snarky Candiru2

Sunday, 13 October 2013

In today's strip, Michael oppresses Elly by asking to be paid for chores he should do without being asked to or expecting anything in return. This makes him evil because he should be paying them for the air he breathes.

(Strip Number 6142, Original Publication Date, 14 October 1984)

Panel 1: We start things off with Elly asking Mike to take some clothes to the laundry room.

Panel 2: He's glad to do so.

Panel 3: As he dusts the furniture, he asks if he's being helpfut; she assures him that he is.

Panel 4: He reminds her that he's doing all sorts of stuff for her.

Panel 5: He asks if he's being helpful and she says that he is wondrously so.

Panel 6: He asks if she's happy that he's doing this without being lectured about having to do so.

Panel 7: She assures him that yes, she is exceedingly pleased that he's doing this without being asked.

Panel 8: He again asks if she's really, REALLY pleased and she says that she sure is.

Panel 9: When Mike asks how much Elly plans on paying him, she looks at us as if to plead for sympathy for having a selfish son who wants to be paid for stuff he should do for free.

Summary: I don't know what Elly finds more galling. Is she more pissed off that he expects money for stuff he should be happy to do for free or that John is averse to seeing that she should be paid to do this sort of thing?
