Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 8 May 2013

The second part of the micro-arc has John succumb to panic and smash the caterpillar out of mindless, terrified rage; Mike makes an ironic comment that John himself would later make when Lizzie got grossed out and killed a mosquito that was feeding on him.

(Strip Number 609, Original Publication Date, 9 May 1984)

Panel 1: Having been woken up by Elizabeth and noticed the caterpillar crawling on his glasses, John yells "YAAAAAAHHHH!!!" in terror.

Panel 2: He then bellows "A CATERPILLAR!! A [BOXCAR] BIG CATERPILLAR WAS CRAWLING ALONG MY GLASSES!!"

Panel 3: Despite Michael's protestations, John freaks out and squashes the caterpillar like the craven asshole he is.

Panel 4: As he looks at the thing's remains, Michael tells Elizabeth that some people just don't appreciate nature.

Summary: One wonders what minor sin Rod committed that led to his avatar being made into a violent, profanity-spewing, child-traumatizing lunatic with zero impulse control. I can understand Lizzie going wacko because she thought that John was courting West Nile disease but this is a disproportionate response to whatever Rod did.
