Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 25 April 2013

Today's strip is Lynn's rather unsubtle way of telling childless people to not volunteer unsolicited advice about parenting; while it might look as if we're getting the bog-standard mommy-jacking, the notes are all about how Lynn 'made the mistake' of telling her husband's friends what she thought before she had Aaron only to be humbled by reality.

(Strip Number 4423, Original Publication Date, 26 April 1984)

Panel 1: We start off with Elly and Georgia in the kitchen listening to the result of Michael's being told to do something: Pointless, Easily Avoidable Dust Up With Lizzie Number 4564. Bored-looking Elly tells Georgia to ignore Mike and Lizzie kicking the crap out of one another because she's tired of playing referee.

Panel 2:
Geo ain't too sure about this and says that if she were her, she'd do something or other else.

Panel 3: As Georgia explains what she'd do differently, Elly tunes out the irrelevant noise about not letting a nine year old beat the holy living crap out of a four year old because he's bored and thought-bubbles about how amazed she is that it's always the childless who have the most to say about raising children.

Summary: Like I said, we're going to find out why Lynn really mommy-jacks in the Lynnsight. She starts by revealing the previously unknown fact that Doug and his friends are seven years or so older than she is, goes on to say that she was an idealistic, naive young woman who presumed to tell actual parents how to parent only to be humbled by the fact that her advice collided with the reality that was Aaron. To be fair, she is telling a cautionary tale.....she just isn't telling the one she thinks she is.
