Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 3 April 2013

We end the "Chopped Liver Is You, Elly" arc with John trying to wriggle off the hook and Elly simply smiling and telling him he looks cute when he's guilty. This tends to imply that she was indeed fishing for something. Too bad it was blackmail material instead of a compliment.

(Strip Number 586, Original Publication Date, 4 April 1984)

Panel 1: John's sputtering response to Elly's question is a panicky "Come on, El! When I said Susan was pretty, I didn't mean to imply you weren't."

Panel 2: He continues by saying that it's natural to be "attracted" to other people--he was simply saying it out loud.

Panel 3: Instead of commenting on how he was doing more than saying, Elly stands there scowling while he says "Don't take me the wrong way! I didn't mean to hurt..."

Panel 4: She then cuts him off and smilingly tells him that he looks cute when he's guilty.

Summary: Wow, this sure is a healthy relationship, eh? It seems to me that Elly isn't looking to be told she's pretty AND approachable....she's just looking for something she can nail him with later.
