Snarky Candiru2

Friday, 1 February 2013

In today's strip, Elly gets an unwelcome reminder that her children see her as something of an angry disciplinarian with an aversion to sympathizing with them. This astonishes her because she thinks that they know how much she hates to punish them.

(Strip Number 4412, Original Publication Date, 3 February 1984)

Panel 1: Elly tells the family that tomorrow, she starts a story-time thing for pre-schoolers.

Panel 2: John tells her that he's surprised that she's even interested in working with children.

Panel 3: Elly asks him if he's gone nuts; after all, she loves children and gets along fine with them.

Panel 4: Mike responds to that statement by stage whispering "As long as they're not her own" to a smiling Lizzie. Parental reaction to this is mixed with John smirking behind his hand and Elly looking like a pole-axed ewe.

Summary: We can probably expect a variation on the theme "Happy families who get along like ours did make for boring reading."
