Snarky Candiru2

Monday, 14 January 2013

In today's strip, Lynn liberates the old "the shrinks are the real lunatics" joke from another artist so she can not only vilify Evil Ted for not being afraid of Elly, she can slam psychiatrists for suggesting that most of what's wrong with her is her own fault.

(Strip Number 537, Original Publication Date, 14 January 1984)

Panel 1: Now that John has returned from lunch, Jean takes John to task because she cannot understand why it is that he associates with Ted because he always makes him angry.

Panel 2: She goes on to list his trivial sins of being chauvinistic, childish, opinionated, having a chaotic personal life and being nuts while leaving out the sin that distinguishes him from John: his not having the fear of Elly all good people have.

Panel 3: John tells Jean that he's well aware of Ted's many flaws. That's why it's a relief that they had to cut lunch short.

Panel 4: You see, Ted counsels a family therapy group in half an hour.

Summary: This will no doubt be accompanied by a note wondering why a man with no family presumes to give out advice. The Lynn Johnstons of the world simply cannot admit that people who haven't lived a thing have a right to speak about something.
