Snarky Candiru2

Tuesday, 8 January 2012

We continue the aerobics arc with some surreal visual non-humor; that's because instead of Elly is literally stiff as a board after her insanely exaggerated workout.

(Strip Number 535, Original Publication Date, 9 January 1984)

Panel 1: We start things off with Mike and Lizzie looking into the kitchen as Elly howls in pain. Lizzie asks Mike whatsa matter wif Mom.

Panel 2: Mike tells her that Mom went to some kinda fitness class last night.

Panel 3: John asks Elly if she's feeling a little stiff this morning. Since she looks as if her spinal column has been replaced with a rebar, I'd say she is.

Summary: We can expect comments on Gocomics and on the strip itself about other people who did too much too quickly like Elly; what we can't expect is to have those comments comment on how dumb that is.

Off Topic, Sort of: The Sounds of Foobery.

As we saw in Monday's comments, frothy_beeline thinks of Elly as speaking in a whiny, groaning growl. This comment got me thinking about something that's bothered me since the animated series came out. What bothered me is that the characters sound more like a casting director's idea of what the Foobs would sound like than what they probably would in real life.

What this all means is that I'd like to know what you think the Pattersons sound like.
